How to enter into our competition?

It’s in your hands…

To win a life on Waiheke Island.

We have designed a competition that involves more than just luck. To win everything to start the life of your dreams on Waiheke Island, you have to do the following…

  1. Click on 'Competition' or on the 'Submit links' button in the top right hand corner of the website.

  2. Now, copy any link from Youtube. Simply copy the Youtube URL in your address bar and paste it into the 'Add links' VT-Trust website screen.

This can be any link you want, the trick is to choose a link that is popular already and will become even more popular, or a link that you think will become really popular in the future.

You know those baby videos that all of a sudden receive a million hits a day, or the new single by Justin Bieber? Uploading one of those could just get you to win our amazing, off the hook prize.

So, the video link that will eventually win the prize, is the one with the ‘highest growth’ at the end of the competition.

What on earth do we mean by that?

Ok. Once you have uploaded your video link and it goes live (a green ‘play’ button will pop up next to your link), the growth rate of your video will start to accumulate by every new hit your video gets on Youtube. When your video receives 2000 views per minute, your growth rate will shoot up really quickly, when it only receives 2 views per minute, this rate will be much lower.

We calculate the growth rate of the video you chose to upload by dividing the total number of views your video has received from the minute you uploaded the link, by the overall minutes your video link has been active. That way, you get an average growth rate per minute.

Because we want to give everyone a chance and not just a small minority who have uploaded really popular videos, we don’t look at the overall views a video has received in a certain amount of time, but at the rate they are growing after you have uploaded it. That way, it does not matter if loads of people upload the same video as everyone will have a different time of uploading and therefore a different starting point for their growth rate.

After your video link has been active for two days, you can decide to stop it.

Why would you stop your video?

Well, if you notice that your video has received 200,000 views in one day, your growth rate will have shot up really quickly and it may be wise to stop the video and go with that growth rate. If your video will receive only 2000 views during the next day, that will lower your overall growth rate which will lower your chances to win the prize.

For instance; you have uploaded a video and decided to stop it exactly 14 days after you have uploaded it, as it became really popular in those two weeks. Let’s say your video has received 250,000 views after you uploaded it.

14 days is 20160 minutes, that way your growth rate will be 250,000 / 20160 = 12.401.

Another example. You uploaded a video exactly 4 weeks ago and it has received 800,000 hits after the minute you uploaded it.

4 weeks is 28 days, which is 40320 minutes, so 800,000 / 40320 = 19.841 as a growth rate!

As you can see, it’s up to you to stop the video or let it continue for the total 6 months of the competition. You can of course always upload more links if you find another one on Youtube that you think will stand a good chance, or upload the same link again for an even better growth rate!
